Policies

Safeguarding

It is the policy of 1st/16th Scout Group to safeguard the welfare of all members by protecting them from neglect and from physical, sexual and emotional harm.  We are committed to:

Taking the interests and well-being of young people into account, in all our considerations and activities.

Respecting the rights, wishes and feelings of the young people with whom we work.

Taking all reasonable practicable steps to protect them from neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse.

Promoting the welfare of young people and their protection within a position of trust.

All of our Leaders have up to date safety training - it is one of the mandatory courses (along with safeguarding and 1st Aid) all leaders must have to be able to keep their warrants. The training has to be renewed every so often, usually each 3 or 5 years depending on the course. The safety training course includes risk assessment for all activities (including section meetings in the Church Hall).

All Section Leaders have Nights Away ("Camping") Permits allowing them to organise and run events upto the limit of their permit.

Privacy and Data Protection

Privacy and data protection as a key policy for Scouting.   The 1st/16th Sutton’s commitment to protecting privacy and data protection has been adopted as a key policy by our Trustees and follow the requirements of the Scout Association.

Our section leaders and trustees know that they are directly responsible for any personal data they process and must therefore ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities under the law.

Scouting for all

The 1st/16th Scout Group has created a fund to help ensure that no member of any section is excluded from Scouting activities on grounds of expense.

In cases of hardship where parents/guardians are having difficulties in paying subscriptions or meeting the cost of an activity or camp which could mean the young person leaving Scouting or missing out on the activity or camp, the Group through the Group Executive (Trustees) may at its discretion waive the subscription fees or make a contribution to cover the costs of the activity or camp.

To learn more about the fund please contact your section leader and ask to speak with the Group Scout Leader.    All enquiries will be treated in strictest confidence.
